Arriving by air

There is no airport on Hvar Island. The closest mainland airports for reaching Hvar Island are Split International or Dubrovnik International.  From the airport, you’ll need to take either a bus or taxi to the nearest ferry port.

Airport bus from Split International to the ferry port

There is an airport shuttle bus that departs directly outside the airport terminal building and go straight to Split ferry port (which is in the city centre).  The journey takes approximately 40 minutes and you can pay the driver directly. The fare is approximately €10.

Airport bus from Dubrovnik to the ferry port

There is a reliable non-stop shuttle bus from Dubrovnik airport into the city centre which also stops at the ferry port. It departs from outside the terminal 30 minutes after each flight arrives and you can buy a ticket at the airport or from the bus driver. You can also take a taxi from the airport as well.

Airport taxis from Split to the ferry port

The journey to Split ferry port from the airport is approx 30 minutes’ drive time. We recommend Dom on +385 99 330 3577 who drives a White Land Rover Evoque and charges €40 cash from the airport to central Split or ferry port and Bozo on +385 91 253 0812 who drives a sedan at €50 cash from the airport to central Split or the ferry port or €70 if you need a people carrier for larger parties or if you have lots of baggage. Both are charming, speak English and will help you every step of the way

Arriving by car

The only way to bring a car onto Hvar Island is by ferry. There are various options to choose from. Please be aware that certain parts of the old towns are pedestrian only. That said, having a car can be a good way to explore the further flung areas of the island.

Taking the car ferry

If you are bringing a car, be aware that you will need to pre-book your vehicle onto the Jadrolinija car ferry and from Split to Stari Grad or from Drvenik to Sucuraj and we recommend arriving at your departure port at least 1.5 hours before departure time in peak season. The best way to purchase a ticket is by the Jadrolinija app. Note that the car ferry only disembarks at Stari Grad port or Sucuraj so you’ll need to catch the right boat. Catamarans from Hvar Town do not take vehicles.

Driving to Hidden House

As Hvar is not a large island, driving to Hidden from any port is quite quick. Stari Grad port is the closest, about 5 minutes away. As we're in a pedestrian area of town only, you'll need to park a short distance from us and walk into town.

Parking

We have a dedicated parking space one minute away from the main car park in Stari Grad, saving you €15 a day plus. Just let us know you are driving and we will send you the exact location and instructions.

Boat Services

There is no airport on Hvar, so everyone arrives by sea. You have three choices for how to do this: the ferry, the catamaran or a private boat service.

Sailing times + tickets

For ferry and catamaran sailing routes, times, prices and to buy tickets, we recommend you download the Jadrolinija app, or visit the Jadrolinija website. Also you can download the TP Line app and Krilo both these companies sail catamarans into and out of Hvar Town (foot passengers only).

Journey times from the mainland to Hvar Island

Journey times vary based on your port of departure. From Split, the car ferry takes 1 hour 50 minutes. The catamaran is a bit speedier at 1 hour. If you’re departing from Dubrovnik, the fastest route is the 3.5hr catamaran.

Private boat service

We work with a number of private skippers who will arrange door-to-door service from Split airport to within 2 minutes walk to Hidden House. These journeys take approximately 1 hour 15 minutes. Prices start at €500 upwards. Please ask us for details.
